Knowledge Organiser for Lord of the Flies along with a PowerPoint slide that contains questions explaining how students should use the knowledge organiser to revise each character’s development in the novel. I have selected crossover quotations that link to both characters and themes. I have also included some ideas for how to approach A03 context for each character and theme. The second page has a blank version of the knowledge organiser. I ask students to fill as much of the blank one in as they can and then show them my answers at the end.

My top 50 Macbeth quotations on one sheet with some analysis about why each quotation is important in the play as well as the scene each quotation has been taken from. I have carefully selected what I consider the 50 most important quotations from Lord of the Flies and included a brief explanation about why each quotation is important. They have been put into 10 categories covering characters and themes. Of course, some quotations can apply to more than category. The resource has an accompanying PowerPoint. Use the A3 sheet to revise inferences for 10 quotations per character then compare against the answer sheet. The animations on the PowerPoint reveal each answer one by one so you can go through them in turn. Activity is differentiated to encourage higher-level students to push for more advanced inferences and to identify and comment on language features and Priestley’s wider purpose. Writing frames and essay plans designed to help lower ability GCSE students write about the whole of the text not just the given extract. There are 7 writing frames in total using two different styles. Some with an introduction and conclusion and some without. For each question I have identified 5 points with 5 quotations. Students must then develop each point by adding language analysis, inferences zoom in to language and zoom out to context. 2023 update: Extra 4 essay plans added.
